Able, Gifted And Talented Programme
We are fortunate to have a significant number of children who are able, gifted or talented in one or more areas of their learning. As a school, it is important that our pupils’ areas of particular strength are identified and that opportunities are created to extended these abilities.
All our pupils are assessed at the beginning of each key stage by the use of Durham University base line tests. These, together with the professional judgement of our teachers, allow us to create, monitor and update our AG and T register. Students on this register are encouraged to take part in a range of extra-curricular activities as well as being stretched and challenged within lessons. Examples of AG and T activities recently taking place in school are:
- Philosophy for Children (P4C)
- Guest speakers
- Competitive debate
- Tiered classes in some subjects
- Academic co-curricular classes such as Spanish, Robotics and Model United Nations
- Sports coaching and inter school competition (national and international)
- Art challenges and coaching from local/international artists
- Presentations and discussions led by school staff
Some of these activities are specific to students on the current AG and T register. However, most are open to all students.
