With the completion of the 2014 IGCSE Examination session we bade a fond farewell to the Year 11 class on Saturday Evening with our Leavers' Ball. The Ball proved to be a very elegant affair and was greatly enjoyed by all. Miss Ayinoluwa Abegunde was voted Ball Queen by her peers and Mr Rasak Olugbode Ball King. The competition was very fierce and the best dressed prizes went to Miss Oluwasanmi Toyobo and Mr Uduokhai Akhigbe. Our thanks go out to all parents who go generously supported this event and the PTA for organising it.
Having completed their IGCSE Examinations a number of Year 11 students have been working towards a professional qualification in Leadership from the Royal Chartered Management Institute in London. Under the guidance of Mr Eric Liddell of TFL students have been working through a series of modules on which they will be expected to complete a written report at the end of the programme. Once these reports have been moderated by TFL the students will receive certificates and be registered by the CMI.
Taking advantage of Mr Liddell's visit to Nigeria we also ran a short course for primary students from our feeder schools last Saturday. At the end of the session all the students were awarded with the Bronze Certificate in the 'First steps to Leadership' Course.
As we did earlier this year we hope to run TFL/CMI Key Skills for Success Courses for Year 10 students in the coming autumn term.
School exams were disrupted last Thursday due to a public holiday and we will complete them on Tuesday 17th June. In the next week or so all students in the school will conduct a thorough review of their examination papers with their teachers. This is a very important part of the examination process that allows us to identify areas of strength and weakness; this knowledge will help us plan future programmes of learning for BIS students. Examination results and end of Year Reports will be issued on Friday 4th July between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm when members of staff will be available to meet teachers.
Monday 16th June is our annual Maths Day when students have the opportunity to use their maths skills in inter-house competitions. This year we were also delighted to have students from St Saviour's join us for this maths event.
At the end of the week during the afternoon of Saturday June 21st we will be holding the BIS Variety Show. Please come along and support these budding artists.
Progress with the swimming pool project continues as the Education Committee is meeting with competing contractors to finalise the details and specifications before the contract is awarded. This should all take place this term so that work can start over the summer break and we will hopefully get the pool into use early in the next school year.
