Year 11 Leavers Ceremony.
Friday 2nd May 2014.
The whole school and guests assembled in New Horizons last Friday afternoon to bid farewell to our current Year 11 Class. This Leavers' Ceremony marked the last time this particular year group would formally be together in school. They still have their exams to complete and the Leavers' Ball to look forward to but they will not meet again as a group with the rest of the school.
Something of a bitter sweet occasion marking the end of one chapter in their lives and the start of another sentiments echoed in the words of our chief guest Mr Peter Carter the British Deputy High Commissioner here in Lagos. Mr. Carter spoke eloquently on the need to embrace such occasions as the start of something new rather than the end, life being a succession of new starts as our circumstances change.
Also among our distinguished guests were Chief Simeon Akinlonu representing the Education Committee and School Patrons and Group Captain Ma Akiode Commander of 107 HQ NAF Lagos who was representing Air Marshall Adesola Amosu Chief of the Air staff Nigerian Air Force.
Andrew Perry and Sanmi Toyobo completed their final duties as Head Boy and Head Girl making short valedictory speeches on behalf of their class.
Following the award of prizes photographs were taken outside New Horizons followed by light refreshments for guests in the library. Again a bitter sweet occasion as we spoke with parents who have been part of the school's life and community for the last five years, some remain with us while others said farewell as their children are about to leave BIS.
May we take this opportunity to thank all those who attended for their many kind words and wish the Year 11 class and their families the very best for the future. Although no longer our students they will always remain part of the BIS family and most welcome here on Landbridge Avenue.
