All afterschool activities are on hold this week as students in Years 7-10 take the first set of school exams for the 2013-2014 school year. Year 11 classes continue as normal they will sit 'Mock' exams in early January.
Our congratulations go out to Mrs Okafor, Physics, and Mrs Nwoha, Economics, who have both safely delivered baby girls in recent weeks. On behalf of the entire school community may I wish both families and the new arrivals the very best for the future.
Sadly we say farewell to a stalwart of the Maths Department at the end of this week as Mr Aleke leaves us for pastures new in a 'new' city located in the centre of Nigeria. We would like to thank Mr Aleke for his contribution to the school and wish him and his family the very best in Abuja. Mr. Peter Ake Imogu will join the school in December to replace Mr Aleke and I am sure you will join me in giving him a very warm welcome to BIS.
We are also very pleased to announce that Mr Wilson Udofia will take over as the Head of Sapphire House.
House colours have been awarded to Aiesosa Omosigho and Rhema Onyia of Topaz for their contribution to inter-house athletics. Well done.
On Tuesday of this week a number of UK Universities will have representatives in school to meet with Year 10-11 students and their parents. This meeting organised with the support of the British Council will provide an opportunity for those interested in post 18 education in the UK to find out what is on offer and what decisions may need to be made for post 16 education. The meeting will take place in the school library directly after school on Tuesday, all parents are most welcome to attend.
Preparations, on hold this week, continue for our Christmas presentation of 'Sinbad the Sailor'. The performance for parents and guests of the school will take place on Tuesday 10th December at 6:00pm in New Horizons.
Although our students are hard at work completing examinations the PTA is continuing its preparation for the school Christmas Fayre to be held on Saturday 7th December. Details of this event are going up around the school. For security reasons etc this event is not open to members of the public but rather to the BIS community and friends. Tickets and t-shirts for this event will go on show this week, all proceeds being directed towards the school swimming pool fund. Please support this event in which the Student Council have been heavily involved- they have a very steely resolution to have a pool as soon as possible. Should you be able to support this Fayre or the swimming pool projects in any way please directly contact my office or the PTA.
Have a great week.
