BIS News Update: Monday 18th November 2013

It is always a pleasure to have visitors in school especially when they leave 'wowed' by our students.
Last week we welcomed representatives of Trinity College, Dublin to school. Students from Years 10 and 11 were treated to an enthralling presentation about life at one of Europe's top universities. Trinity College contacted us directly after hearing about the outstanding students we produce and they were not disappointed when they visited.
Our year 10 and 11 historians were also afforded the rare treat of a short lecture from Jane Ohlmeyer the Erasmus Smith's Professor of History at Trinity. Professor Ohlmeyer spoke on the recent history of Ireland drawing parallels with the history of Nigeria. Following the visit we wouldn't be surprised to see BIS graduates heading for Dublin in the next few years.

A party of Year 10 students spent part of Wednesday morning at an Environmental Conference held at the Four Points Hotel. Those who took part enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal from the various presentations.

Under the guidance of Mr Ajiboye and Patricia Obuseh of Year 11, the set designer, New Horizons has been turned into an art studio as the back drops of the pantomime are being painted. All over the school work is developing in preparation of 'Sinbad the Sailor' - please put Tuesday December 10th in your diary, it looks like a very exciting show.

Last Friday we held the annual inter house cross country race for boys in conjunction with the cancer charity CSDon. The boys all contributed to this very worthwhile charity and the Cross Country awards were presented by Mrs Duke the CEO of the charity. The Senior Individual winner was Razak Olugbode, Junior Individual Chike Onyia, Sapphire won the Senior House trophy and Jade the Junior House trophy. Following the race all boys attended a lecture on male health issues delivered by Lieutenant Commander Mohammed a doctor serving in the Nigerian Navy.

Congratulations to our girls' football team who enjoyed an outstanding victory in the AIS International Soccer Tournament. Despite their best efforts the boys were not victorious on this occasion.

Once again we are delighted to report on the success of a BIS Dance Team in the annual AISEN Dance competition. Appearing on the stage at Grange school our boys and girls danced away with First prize. Congratulations to all who took part. Pictures of the team in action are on the website.

We are very grateful to our Head Boy, Andrew Perry, and Head Girl, Sanmi Toyobo, who joined with senior staff to represent the school at an Educational Fair held at St. Saviour's School. Our students once again did us proud and many parents left the Fair with a very positive view of BIS and its products.

The PTA and Student Council have asked that all be reminded of the Christmas Fayre to be held on Saturday December 7th in support of the swimming pool project. As part of the preparation the PTA will be holding a general meeting at 8:00 am on Tuesday, 19th November, of this week. At this meeting the PTA will be looking for support and volunteers to help with Fayre. If you can't attend the meeting but can help in any way please get in touch via the Principal's office.

One last reminder, school exams next week!
