Dear Parents and Guardians,

Upcoming Events

Monday 11 March - Friday 16 March 2018: I will be away from BIS and attending a University Fair in Switzerland. The rest of the Leadership Team will be available to address any issues that may arise during the course of this week.

Tuesday 13 March 2018: years 8, 9 and 10 will experience a UK education theatre production called ''Smashe'' during lesson 5. The 40 minute play will form part of the PSHE programme and looks at the dangers and impact of alcohol in society and family life.

Thursday 15 March: Year 9 students will be attending an options assembly during lesson 5. The focus of this assembly is to introduce the option booklet and the option groupings to the students. This booklet will come home to you thereby enabling you to have a conversation with your child prior to the parents evening on the 19 March 2018.

Saturday 17 March 2018:Year 7 Entrance exam for September 2018. This will start at 8:30am and run through to 12:00noon. Please encourage any of your friends with children in year 6 at primary and who are undecided on a school for year 7 to consider BIS for September 2018. Our selling points are excellent IGCSE and AS/A level results, a fantastic sports department with a rejuvenated and expanded curriculum provision, 4 brand new science labs for teaching next academic year and a focus on moving our learning delivery to more in-class collaborative, strategically placed problem solving learning tasks and a focus on critical thinking skill development from year 7 through to year 13.

Monday 19 March 2018: Year 9 Options Parents Evening 2:45pm, New Horizons. This event will start promptly and run until 5:00pm. All parents of year 9 students are encouraged and advised to attend. We will be explaining a change in the options process this year, introducing subject choices with brief overviews of each and then opening up to questions and answers followed by meetings with teachers from the whole curriculum.

Thursday 22 March 2018:This will be a fundraising day across the whole school. The theme for the day is CHARACTER DAY.

Friday 23 March 2018: parent-teacher consultation day and student learning progress report. This will commence at 8:00am and end at 12:00noon. This is the end of the second term of this academic year.

Sunday 8 April 2018: Boarders resume at 16:00 hours.

Monday 9 April 2018: Whole school resumes at 8:00 am for registration.

School Fee Payment.

We ask all parents to adhere to the school policy on fee payment. The fees for TERM 3 are due as we open for the third term. Late payment of fees impairs the School's ability to honour its financial commitments and ensure that your child receives quality education. Thank you to all of you who have already submitted your fees. We are continuing our following up of outstanding fees. Please contact the accounts department if you wish to talk with us about problems with school fee payment.

Punctuality to School and Late Detentions.

Thank you very much parents in helping us become a more punctual school. We are now securely down to 5 latecomers each day. The February award for attendance and punctuality will be given in the Principals assembly next week.

The daily detention cycle will continue with each latecomer's parent will receive a phone call from the school informing them their child will be in late detention. Any student who is due to attend an extra-curricular club must attend the detention and not the club.

Reasons for lateness are still dominated by 'traffic' - this is the nature of roads in Lagos and therefore must be planned for. So please add 15 to 20 minutes to your journey time if your child has arrived late to school. Sibling drop offs to school are still an issue, with some exam year students arriving late. If you are a parents of one of our frequent flyers, you will receive a phone call this week asking you to attend an interview at the school.

I ask you all, parents and guardians, to make sure each and every BIS student is at school on time in the future. Please help us safeguard your child here at school - if they are not registered, the fire and evacuation procedures will not be securely and effectively met.

Parent Appointments with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team.

If you wish to meet with a member of the Senior Leadership Team, please ring the Principals PA on 0908 701 4833 to book an appointment. You will be asked for a meeting focus (a reason for the meeting) and your child's name and tutor group. The reason and focus of the meeting is not the actual detail of a future discussion but a focus area such as Teaching and Learning, Bullying or Behaviour Issues. We will always require the focus to be given. Your appointment will be booked into the member of the leadership team's diary who is best placed to deal with that issue (see table below). Please do not expect to be immediately placed into the Principal's appointment diary. All meetings will be recorded, all meetings will have clear actions for follow up and be acted upon within 7 working days.
