BIS Principal's Newsletter 8th November 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a pleasant half term break and am pleased to welcome all members of the BIS family back to school.

It has been a great pleasure to welcome our new principal, Ms Linda Potticary, to BIS this week. I would like to take this opportunity to wish her well in her new role and am very sure that this very special school is in excellent hands and moving into an exciting future.

Our open day, just before half term, was very successful with a large number of prospective students and their parents visiting. I would like to remind everyone that our scholarship entrance examination will take place on Saturday 25th November and that forms are available from our registrar.

It was equally good to see so many parents at our parent/teacher conference on October 27th. I hope that your ward's report made good reading and that the grades and comments made on the day have been the subject of much discussion at home with a view to guiding the way forward.

We ask that you take special notice of the items below:

Sports Day: Friday 10th November

A reminder that our annual inter-house sports day will take place on Friday of this week. Mr Carlo and our PE Department have been working very hard to get things ready and our students are taking part in heats over the next two days.

All parents are very welcome on the day with events beginning at 8.00 am and running on until 12.30 pm. A packed lunch will then be available for parents in the Library from 12.35 prior to the presentation of medals and trophies in New Horizons at 1.35. We look forward to seeing you there to join with us on this very popular annual occasion.

Internal Examinations

A reminder that our internal examinations for Years 7-10 are only three weeks away. They begin on Monday 27th November and mark a key assessment point in the academic calendar. Students should be devoting time to revision over the coming weeks, not least at weekends.

BIS Alumni

Following a successful and enjoyable cocktail party for former students which took place just before half term, I am delighted to announce that we have a committee of volunteers to formally launch our new alumni association. They will be meeting next week and I am sure that in a very short space of time they will have put together a vibrant programme of events to bring our former students together. We will keep you informed of progress.

With best wishes for a pleasant week and apologies for the late arrival of this letter.

Howard Bullock.
