BIS Principal's Newsletter 24th October 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the final newsletter prior to our half term break. In our assembly this morning, I congratulated our staff and students on what has been a very positive seven weeks with a great deal being achieved. We are all now ready for a well-deserved holiday, before the hectic rush of examinations and end of term activities in November and December.

Fun-Run Success

Last Friday saw our annual cross country race around the campus in support of cancer awareness. It was a colourful and enjoyable event, very well organised by our PE and House staff and I am delighted to report that the sum of 810,000 Naira was raised for this excellent cause. Well done to every member of the BIS family!

International Swimming Trial

Congratulations to Omo-Oluwani Obatoyinbo, Akaolisa Nweze and Feechi Odinkalu on selection for the trials to represent Nigeria in a swimming competition of the Confederation of African Nations. The competition will take place between 27th and 29th October at the National Stadium.

Alumni Association Launch

On Wednesday of this week we will be holding a reception in school to officially launch an alumni association for BIS. An increasing number of our former students come back to see us and it is clear that they hold the school in great affection and esteem. We aim to set the association on an official footing this week and elect a committee for the coming year.

Discos

Two discos will be held on Thursday of this week (26th October) in celebration of half term. Please note the times and venues:

Junior Disco (Years 7-9)                                  3.00-4.30 pm                           New Horizons

Senior Disco (Years 10-12)                             5.30-7.30 pm                           F Block

The cost of tickets is 500 Naira; tickets will be on sale during breaks at school.

We ask that drivers arrive to collect students at 4.15 pm and 7.15 pm respectively.

Non-Uniform Day

Please note that Thursday of this week will be a non-uniform day for students who wish to wear home clothes. A collection of 500 Naira will be made for this privilege with the proceeds going to charity.

Cardiff University Visit

Representatives from the University of Cardiff will be visiting BIS on Wednesday of this week (25th October). They will be available to meet students and parents in the Library at 2.45 pm.

Reports and Parent Teacher Conference

Attainment and effort grades will be published at our parent/teacher conference on Friday of this week. The conference will take place in New Horizons between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm. Please note that no lessons will take place on this day. Students are very welcome to attend with their parents, but must be in full school uniform if they are present.

Finally best wishes for a pleasant and relaxing half term to all students, parents and staff.

Yours sincerely,

 Howard Bullock.
