BIS Principal's Newsletter 3rd May 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This is the first newsletter of the final term of the academic year and I hope that you all had pleasant and relaxing holidays. Last Friday saw our Leavers' Ceremony for students in Years 11 and 12 and it marked a departure from our previous format. Most notably the students were smartly attired in academic robes and all students received a scroll and a leaver's trophy. This will set the pattern for future years. There are a number of other key items of information and we ask that you take careful note of these.

New Vice Principal Appointed

After an extensive search and interview process, I am delighted to announce that Mr Stewart King will join us as Vice Principal at the beginning of the new academic year. Mr King holds an MA in History from the University of Aberdeen and is a very experienced teacher both in the UK and overseas. He has taught in leading independent schools in the UK including Croydon High School and the Girls' Division of Bolton School where he was Head of Sixth Form. Indeed, Sixth Form development is one of Mr King's key areas of experience. As an expatriate Mr King has worked in Pakistan and at Dubai College, a very prestigious school in the Middle East. Mr King will be visiting Lagos for a week after the half term break and we will ensure that he meets as many parents as possible.

Rome Trip

A party of eighteen students from BIS spent a week in Rome during the Easter holidays. They had a very enjoyable visit and were excellent ambassadors for both BIS and Nigeria. Thanks are due to the organisers, Mrs Adefarakan and Mrs Bodude for their hard work in planning the itinerary and the other accompanying staff for their time and commitment.

Honours Boards

Visitors to New Horizons will notice that we have put a number of honours boards in different areas of the hall. These commemorate the students with the best academic results, former principals and former head boys and head girls. They are a very attractive addition to this key part of the school campus.

Hostel Upgrade

A considerable amount of work was done in the boys' boarding hostels during the holidays with bathrooms being totally renovated. This is part of an ongoing programme of improvement.

With best wishes for a pleasant week ahead,

Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
