BIS Principal's Newsletter 20th March 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Last week was exceptionally busy with a number of key events. We are very grateful to our PTA Executive Committee for organising two very successful careers mornings for Year 9 students as part of their preparation for IGCSE options. A number of senior figures from different fields presented to the students and topics ranged from law and insurance to pharmacy and ICT and from animation to the world of entertainment. We are very appreciative of all the guests who took time to be with us.

We have a huge number of sporting successes also to report. For a relatively small school we field a large number of teams and this year is going exceptionally well. Thanks go to all of our hardworking staff who give of their time and energy to ensure the high level of performance.

Swimming

Last Saturday our swimmers travelled to Children’s International School for an AISEN swimming gala. For the second time in a row we achieved second place, having consistently been third in previous galas. It is now only a matter of time until we are going to take first.

We were delighted to hold our first ever inter-house swimming gala in our own pool on Friday 10th March. This event was very well organised by our swimming staff and PE Department and has paved the way for us to host larger scale events. The final line up was as follows:

1st Place                                               Topaz

2nd Place                                              Sapphire

3rd Place                                              Ruby

4th Place                                              Jade

BIS has also been well represented in a number of other activities.

The Nigerian Child Genius Competition

The Nigerian Child Genius Competition is organised by Gensect Media Ltd to search for the country's most brilliant child aged between 8 and 12. Three of our students in Year 7 took part in the preliminary examinations for the state and have made it to the regional finals. We wish them well as they represent our school. The students are Michelle Peters Onyedikachi, Omolade Akinloye Tajudeen and Daniel Adefala Adebayo.

AISEN Mathematics Competition

A team of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students travelled to Avi-Cenna International School on March 11th for an AISEN Maths competition involving seventeen schools. Our Key Stage 4 team came third and our Key Stage 3 team came seventh, a good achievement given that this was the first time that we had participated. Thanks are due to Mr Edegbe and the Mathematics Department for supporting the students.

Term Dates for 2017-2018

We are in the process of finalising the term dates for next session and following a meeting of the Education Committee on Friday we will publish them at the beginning of next week.

Payment of School Fees

While we appreciate that the economic situation is not currently easy, we do have to rigorously apply our policy on the collection of school fees. We would like to remind all parents that fees are due at the beginning of each term with a grace period of two working weeks to complete payment. We thank everyone for their support in this matter.

With best wishes for a pleasant week ahead,

Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
