BIS Principal's Newsletter 31st October 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a pleasant half term break. The next seven working weeks are set to be very hectic with a large number of school events scheduled as well as the very important week of internal school examinations for those in Years 7-10. Mock examinations for those taking public examinations are scheduled for early next term.

AISEN Musical Success for BIS
During the first weekend of half term, we participated in an AISEN instrumental music competition. We are delighted to announce that Chinelo Okafor (Year 8) achieved second position in the singing category, while Elizabeth Nyoo (also of Year 8) reached first position in the piano category. We are very proud of both of them and congratulate them on this achievement.

Open Day
A reminder that we will be holding an open day for prospective students and their families this coming Saturday (5th November). There will be a formal welcome from the Principal and Senior Leadership Team at 10.00 am, 11.30 am and 1.00 pm in the Library before our visitors will be taken on a tour of the school where sample lessons will be taking place. Please encourage your friends and family to come along.

Upper School Parents' Coffee Morning
Parents of students in Years 10 to 12 are invited to a coffee morning this Wednesday (2nd November) at 8.15 am in Room L4. As well as a presentation from the Principal, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and to meet socially. We hope to see you there.

Poppy Appeal
This is the poignant time of the year in which we commemorate those who have given their lives serving their countries. Please encourage your wards to buy the poppies which are on sale at the school. The proceeds from this go directly to help those suffering as a result of service. On Sunday 13th November, a delegation of BIS students will as usual attend the remembrance ceremony held at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Yaba.

AISEN Football
We are delighted to be hosting the Key Stage 3 AISEN football tournament here at BIS this coming Saturday. We look forward to welcoming our visitors and watching some high quality football.

Year 11 Workshop
On Friday 4th November our Year 11 students will be attending a workshop on the subject of note taking, facilitated by the University of Lancaster. This will take place at 2.35 pm.

Identity Cards
We aim to issue a personalised identity card to all students at the beginning of next week.

Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies
Please note that the Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies will be giving a presentation to interested students and their parents tomorrow  (Tuesday 1st November) at 2.45 pm in Room L4.

Sports Day
Finally here is advance notice that we will be holding our annual inter-house sports day on Friday 11th November. More details to follow in next Monday's letter.

With best wishes for a pleasant week ahead,

Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
