BIS Principal's Newsletter 4th October 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a relaxing long weekend in celebration of National Day. School resumed again this morning with a full school assembly. It was particularly impressive that part of it was given over to two charitable initiatives generated by the students themselves. Class 9V have set themselves the target of collecting toys for the Lekki Motherless Babies' Home, while Solomon Amba, also of Year 9, is asking for school bags to be donated for less privileged children in Lagos. I hope that we will all be able to support these excellent causes.

Lower School Parents' Coffee Morning - Tomorrow (Wednesday 5th October)
Tomorrow we look forward to welcoming parents from the Lower School for a coffee morning beginning at 8.15 in New Horizons. After a number of brief presentations from school managers, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about life at BIS and time to interact on a less formal basis. Our new PTA Chairperson, Mrs Funmi Alagbada, will also be in attendance. We look forward to seeing you there.

Effort Grades
I hope that you will have received effort grades for September. These monthly grades are a very important reflection of how hard each student has been working. Follow-up work will be undertaken by our form tutors and assistant principals, but it is essential that discussion takes place at home, whether to celebrate and congratulate or seek ways to improve.

Sports Fixtures
This Saturday (8th October) is a busy one on the sporting front. Our footballers will take part in an AISEN tournament at Day Waterman College while our tag rugby team will travel to Temple School for the final of the tournament held last term. We wish them well. Please come and help us support them.

End of Term Production
We are delighted that over sixty students attended the auditions held last Saturday. The production of 'The Lion and the Jewel' in July was a huge milestone in drama at BIS and we look forward to an equally good production in December.

Visiting Overseas Schools
Please note that Abbey DLD College will be in school on Thursday of this week at 2.45pm in Room L4.
On Friday after school a UK and USA college and higher education fair will be held in New Horizons. With over 12 institutions visiting us.
Both of these events are designed for students and parents in Years 10 and above.

Foundation Prayers and Services
As you will see from our calendar, these are scheduled for Friday and Sunday of this week. However, some of our key board members have had to travel overseas, so we will rearrange both occasions for later in the term. For our new families, the prayers at the Central Mosque and the Sunday Service at All Saints' Church, Yaba are held every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of BIS and are very special occasions. We will update you when we know the new dates.

With best wishes for a pleasant week,
Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
