BIS Principal's Newsletter 31st May 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a pleasant and relaxing half term break and yesterday's holiday in honour of Democracy Day.

The second half of the term is set to be very busy with promotional examinations, summer term production, activities week and our final prize giving day for students in Years 7-10. Our Duke of Edinburgh Award students are getting ready to set off to the UK for their main expedition, just as a group of eighteen students return from their half term visit to Ghana. I have received excellent reports about this trip and am pleased to hear that our students were excellent ambassadors for BIS at all times. My thanks go to Mrs Okwamma, Mr Ayensu and Mrs Obasuyi for their excellent organisation and leadership of what was an excellent learning experience.

I have just seen a copy of our new prospectus and also the final draft of our 2016 yearbook. Both of these documents are very impressive indeed and I would like to thank Mrs Arole for her hard work in coordinating their production.

We ask that you take note of the information below, pertaining to the week ahead:

Extra Teaching Period
Due to the time missed just before half term, we will be adding an extra period to our working day beginning from tomorrow (Wednesday 1st June). This will ensure that any work missed will be caught up prior to the promotional examinations later in June. Please note that all students in Years 7-10 will be required to attend this extra lesson and that consequently school will close for all students at 3.30 pm.

Swimming Pool
I am delighted to announce that we will be able to use our swimming pool from Monday of next week. Ms Bain will write in more detail about this in due course and we will be asking for your help in filling in the required return giving information about your ward's prior experience and ability level in swimming. During the first swimming lessons, which will be part of our PE curriculum, every student will be screened by our professional staff as to their current level of ability.

With best wishes for a pleasant week ahead,
Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
