Dear Parents and Guardians,
With the term ending on Wednesday of this week (23rd March), there is still much to be done before we can relax and enjoy the forthcoming Easter holiday.
Friday of last week saw 'Character Day' where a large number of students entered into the spirit of the event and came as all sorts of colourful characters. One gentleman from Year 7 entertained everyone by coming as the Principal of BIS complete with the portly figure!
Friday also saw a very special event in the birthday party held on Southfork in honour of Mrs Halstead, one of the longest serving teachers in the history of BIS. It was a very lively evening and we were pleased to welcome so many of Mrs Halstead's friends from the wider Lagos community as well as current and former BIS parents. The evening was a tribute to the high esteem and affection in which Mrs Halstead is held.
Our tag rugby players travelled to the Mainland on Saturday morning to play the second round of their tournament against Temple School. They played well and we are grateful to their supporters' club of parents who went along to cheer them on. All played well and BIS was victorious.
Our swimmers participated in the AISEN swim meet held at Chrisland School on Saturday morning. Our students did very well indeed with seven gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals being won. A big thank you to our dedicated parents who not only went to support the students, but stepped in to help with the organisation of the event as officials. With the opening of our pool next term, the future for swimming at BIS looks bright.
On a sadder note, I am sorry to announce that Mr Arnold Fletcher, Head of English, has decided to leave BIS at the end of this term for personal reasons. Although I have only known Mr Fletcher for a short time, I know that he has been a highly talented teacher here with a very deep concern for the students in his care. His contribution to debating and public speaking has also been immense. We wish him well as he travels back to the UK and every success in his future career. Mr Lateef Ojo will act as Head of English for next term.
A reminder to parents of students in Year 9 that the first event concerning IGCSE choices for September will take place tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 22nd March). At 2.30 pm we invite parents to join the students for a meeting in New Horizons in which Ms Bain and I will talk about the options process and making the right decisions. At around 3.00 pm we will move to the Library where you will have the opportunity to talk to individual departments about IGCSE courses in the subjects that they cover. This is a crucial meeting in terms of your child’s academic future and we look forward to seeing you there.
Report Collection and Parent Teacher Conference
On Wednesday of this week (23rd March) you will have the opportunity to collect your ward's report and talk to teachers individually regarding progress. This meeting will take place in New Horizons from 8.30 am until 12.00 pm

Boarders will return between 4.00 to 6.00 pm on Monday 11th April.

With best wishes for a relaxing Easter break wherever your travels may take you,
