BIS Principal's Newsletter 20th November 2015

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It really is wonderful to be back at BIS! This time last week I was sitting on the BA flight from London wondering how it would feel to be back in Lagos and at the school after three years away. I have received an amazing welcome from all members of the school community and it has been good to meet up again with old friends as well as to make some new ones. Year 11 students have certainly grown since I last saw them when they were in Year 7! BIS is clearly in good shape with a continued history of high academic standards combined with some very positive developments around the campus itself from the completion of the classroom blocks to our much anticipated swimming pool. I would like to pay tribute to Mr Yates, for all that was achieved during his tenure and also to thank Mr Okosodo and Ms Bain for their hard work and commitment in holding the fort this term.

The last three years have been quite eventful. From BIS I moved to Kazakhstan which was quite a contrast, not least with temperatures of -26 for three months of the year. From there I moved to Malaysia and until recently was working as Director of Education for a group of five schools educating around 5000 children each day across the country.

So to the future and our 'greater tomorrow'. Good schools can never stand still and I look forward to working with the Education Committee and all school stakeholders in shaping development in both the shorter and longer terms. While we rightly hold on to the traditional values of a rigorous approach underpinned by high expectations in all areas of school life, our world will continue to advance technologically and with that will come the need for ongoing development in the way in which we all learn. Our task is to ensure that we fully meet that challenge in the months and years ahead.

I enjoyed meeting a number of our PTA Executive in the Parents' Lounge on Wednesday. The PTA has clearly continued to flourish and we are looking forward to Fun Day on December 5th. I would like to support the requests made for raffle and tombola prizes as well as to ask any potential sponsors for the event to either contact me or the PTA Committee.

Communication lies at the heart of any good school; I operate an open door policy for all parents and you are welcome to drop in at any time. If you would like to make a prior appointment, this can be done easily through my Personal Assistant Ms Jayne Frey. I look forward to seeing you.

With best wishes for a pleasant weekend,
Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
