BIS Principal's Newsletter 7th March 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

During our assembly this morning we took the opportunity to thank our outgoing prefects and house captains on their last day of duty. They have done a splendid job this year in ensuring the smooth running of day to day activity and being ambassadors for BIS and I am very grateful to them. We wish our temporary prefects every success over the coming weeks - they have a great deal to live up to. Again we have a busy week ahead and we ask you to note the following:

Co-curricular Activity

This morning we reminded those in Years 7-10 that every student at BIS is expected to participate in a minimum of one co-curricular activity per week after school. Attendance recently has not been as good as it should be and as a school we are taking firm measures to ensure conformity with this rule. Form tutors will be double checking lists each week and attendance registers will be cross-referenced. We thank you very much for your support in this.

Volleyball Victories

BIS fielded its first competitive volleyball team last weekend in a tournament held here at the school. Given that this was the first time that the team has competed, we were delighted when they achieved third place. Congratulations go to all.

AISEN Art

Last Saturday a group of BIS students took part in the quarter finals of the AISEN art competition. We are delighted to report that our Key Stage 4 (Upper School) entrant has made it through to the semi-finals.

Y9 IGCSE Options Process

We have written a letter to all Year 9 parents inviting them to an assembly on Thursday of this week (9th March) in which we will outline the process for selecting IGCSE options for study in Years 10 and 11. The assembly will take place at 8.00 am in New Horizons and will last for around half an hour. We hope to see many parents there.

Visit from Mark Brooks Education

On Friday of this week (10th March) we will be welcoming school heads from a number of leading UK independent schools through Mark Brooks Education. They will be available to meet parents and students from 2.45 pm in the Library.

Arrival at School and School Photograph

While a large number of our students arrive punctually for registration at 8.00 am, quite a few are not on time. We do ask all families to ensure the most punctual arrival possible as registration is not only a time for checking attendance, but also for important information regarding the school day to be given.

A prompt arrival is particularly necessary tomorrow (8th March) as we will be having our annual whole school photograph taken. We do this early in the morning to avoid long periods waiting in extreme heat.

PTA Formal Dinner

Our thanks go to our PTA Executive for organising an excellent formal dinner last Saturday. It was a very enjoyable occasion and the result of a great deal of hard work.

With best wishes for the coming week,

Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
