BIS Principal's Newsletter 23rd May 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the half term break at the end of this week, we would like to make you aware of the following items:

Report Issue and Parent Teacher Conference

Effort and attainment grades for this first half of the term will be published on Friday of this week (26th May). Please note that we will hold our half termly parent teacher conference on Friday morning where you will be able to collect reports and speak to your ward's teachers about academic progress. The conference will take place in New Horizons from 8.00 am until 12.00 pm. No lessons will take place on this day and we ask that all students attending the conference with their parents wear school uniform.

School Database

I am pleased to report that we have invested in a new software programme that will manage all of our academic and pastoral information in one place. This means that from September 2017 monthly effort grades, half-termly and termly reports will be sent electronically. We will also use this opportunity to review our reporting practice and in particular how the December and July written reports will be structured.

I would also like to take this opportunity to ask that any changes in personal data from address and e-mail contacts to medical conditions are communicated to the Registrar's office as soon as they occur.

School Infrastructure

We are delighted to report that work is already underway for the completion of the swimming pool complex with the construction of a seating stand for onlookers. This should be in place by the time that the students return after the summer holidays.

During the last week of the term we look forward to welcoming a team from Findel Education in the United Kingdom to undertake a survey of our laboratories with a view to refurbishment over the summer holidays. Our new laboratories will make a huge difference in the delivery of practical science lessons.

Examinations for Years 7-10

Please note that end of year promotional examinations for students in Years 7 to 10 will begin on Monday 19th June. Please note that we do not publish the timetable for these until the week before the examinations commence, as this helps to ensure that all subjects are given due attention, not just those timetabled at the beginning of the week.

All students should be spending time on revision during the coming half term.

With best wishes,

Howard Bullock.
